Back on the grind

It's been a while since I wrote anything here, due in part to the fact that I was on a sort of quasi-vacation, but it's good to be back sharing my thoughts and process with the internet again. Upon returning to LA I was greeted by a wave of cooler weather which made working in studio a bit easier, and as we're moving into September I can only hope we don't reach a boil again any time soon. This by way of saying that I hope September to be a busy month in terms of business and I'll need to be spending a lot of time in the booth (where it hopefully won't feel like a sauna).

Anyone familiar with the process of auditioning can attest to the dichotomy between availability of opportunity and chance of success, but a fortunate aspect of the V/O world (and having a home studio of any kind) is the potential to maximize your time spent auditioning thanks to the internet. I can't begin to describe how thankful I am to not be forced to spend all my time in the car driving from one casting call to another. That's not to say I wouldn't love to be booking gigs that require as such, but to be afforded the option of doing the majority of my work from home is something that has great appeal. So I've been on the grind, the hustle, going for whatever work falls within the range of my voice; endeavoring to pump out auditions one after the next to the highest quality in the quickest time frame.

Yet as anyone who works from home can tell you, the challenge to stay productive, stay organized, and to stay engaged without developing cabin fever is as daunting as the audition process itself. You can easily find yourself losing hours to time spent behind the mic and on the computer, editing and perfecting each take as best you can. It's still a surreal feeling to walk back out into the "real world" and have an almost instantaneous echo chamber effect to sounds. Though without a doubt each learning moment, every trying and frustrating part is worth it, and as I get further into the process of generating instant results as well as perfecting my self-direction, each take brings me greater joy.

Remember to stay tuned for this Thursday's new Impression of the Week, and for more consistency in the blog as the weeks go on.

Cheers,

B
